Towneley Hall wedding photographer

I’m Tom, a documentary wedding photographer based in Burnley. I’ve photographed weddings in Towneley Hall’s Red Regency Room and portraits all around the park, so I know the rooms, the light and the quiet corners.

Why I love it here

Red carpet, gilt frames and centuries of portraits on the walls. Then out through the old stone door and into 400 acres of parkland. Towneley gives you two weddings’ worth of backdrops in one, and I know where the light falls in both.

Towneley Hall is Burnley’s Grade I listed hall, now its art gallery and museum, set in over 400 acres of parkland. Ceremonies happen among the paintings in the Red Regency Room, then the whole park is yours for photos. I live just down the road, so it’s about as local as a venue gets for me.

A wedding day at Towneley

Four places, one story

  1. The Red Regency Room

Red walls, a red carpet and gilt-framed paintings. Big windows at the far end flood it with light, and everyone’s faces glow.

  2. Panelled rooms and window light

Dark oak, leaded windows and long corridors. Perfect for quiet portraits, and a lifesaver if it rains.

  3. The gardens and the pond

Clipped hedges, the formal fountain and the pond with its jet of water. Ten minutes out here gives you a whole new set of photos.

  4. Confetti at the door

Out through the old stone doorway and into a cloud of petals. Pure chaos, and my favourite bit.

Real Towneley stories

Three couples, three very different days

Same hall, same park, and not one photo alike. That’s what happens when you photograph people instead of poses.

Centuries old. Still full of stories.

The Towneley family lived here from around 1200. I love adding a new chapter to the place, one wedding at a time.

Getting the best photos at Towneley

LightRed Regency Room
The windows sit behind the registrar, so the room is bright at that end. I move around the edges during the ceremony to catch your faces, not just the backs of your heads.
RainPlan B, sorted
The panelled rooms, window seats and staircase make beautiful portraits on a grey day. Lancashire weather doesn’t worry me here.
GroupsThe front lawn
The lawn in front of the battlements fits a big family photo with the whole hall behind you. I keep group shots quick so you’re back with your guests.
TimeTen minutes outside
The formal garden and the pond are a short walk from the door. Give me ten minutes with you both and you’ll have a completely different set of photos.

Towneley Park photoshoots

Towneley Park is one of Burnley’s favourite places for a walk, and one of mine for photos. Woodland paths, the gardens and the hall itself make a lovely backdrop for a relaxed family session or a couples shoot before your wedding.

  • Family sessions: £100 an hour, usually 1–2 hours
  • Couples and pre-wedding shoots, same simple pricing
  • Dogs, prams and grandparents all welcome

“Tom was our wedding photographer and we honestly could not have imagined anyone better! The pictures are absolutely perfect, he did not miss a single opportunity. Gorgeous, gorgeous pictures and lots of laughs too, Tom will make you feel so comfortable even if you hate photos (like me!) he made sure that we have photos with everyone who attended and plenty of memories :) We have heard so many comments from our guests about how great Tom is, he has a brilliant soul as well as the talent to capture natural moments. We are very glad we chose Tom and would highly recommend him to anyone :)”

Towneley Hall wedding questions

How much does a Towneley Hall wedding photographer cost?

I charge £100 an hour. Packages start at £300 for 3 hours of ceremony coverage, £1,000 for getting ready to the first dance, and £1,200 for the full day.

Have you photographed weddings at Towneley Hall before?

Yes. I’ve photographed two weddings in the Red Regency Room and Farhan and Demi’s Nikkah portraits around the grounds. I’m based in Burnley, so Towneley is right on my doorstep.

Where are the best photo spots at Towneley Hall?

The Red Regency Room for the ceremony, the wood-panelled rooms and staircase for portraits, the front lawn for group photos with the hall behind you, and the formal garden and pond for a few quiet minutes together.

What if it rains on our wedding day?

Towneley is one of the best venues around for rain. The panelled rooms, big windows and staircase give you lovely portraits indoors, and we can nip outside for five minutes if it clears.

Do you photograph Nikkahs?

Yes. I photographed Farhan and Demi’s Nikkah, and I’m happy to work around your ceremony, family traditions and timings. Portraits in Towneley Park make a lovely part of the day, and I can help with poses if you’re camera shy.

How many guests can Towneley Hall hold?

According to the venue’s listing, the Red Regency Room holds up to 80 guests for a civil ceremony, and the lawn behind the hall can take a marquee for up to 400. Check the latest details with the Towneley Hall wedding team.

Do you do family or couples photoshoots in Towneley Park?

Yes. Towneley Park is one of my favourite places for relaxed family sessions and couples shoots. They’re £100 an hour and usually last one to two hours. See family photography.

Do you photograph weddings at other venues near Burnley?

Yes, all over Burnley, Clitheroe, the Ribble Valley, Manchester and the North West, with the same honest, unposed approach. See wedding photography.
